The three shared workloads

A — 1,000 ten-minute tasks a month, 2 vCPU / 4 GiB, deleted after each.
B — one always-on 4 vCPU / 8 GiB / 50 GiB box for a month.
C — one 2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 20 GiB box, three hours a day, stopped otherwise.

Where a provider does not sell the exact shape, the nearest one is used and named in the card. Model tokens, taxes and anything the provider does not price are excluded. A range means the provider bills a dimension it does not publish, such as measured CPU or resident memory.

These are illustrations from published list rates, not invoices. For a price for your own workload, use battleships.dev, the comparison dataset built by the Boat team.

Agent 37

Prepaid wallet, no subscription and no plan fee.

A · 1,000 short tasks

≈ $1.09 a month

2 vCPU / 4 GiB, 4 GB disk (the entry shape), deleted after each task

  • Compute1,000 × 10 min × (2 × $0.00001826 + 4 × $0.00001598)$1.00
  • Disk1,000 × 10 min × 4 GB × $0.00000205$0.08
  • The requested shape exists exactly, so no substitution is needed.
  • Boot and provisioning time is not billed; transitional states such as starting and stopping are billed at the full rate.
  • Excludes model tokens, which usually dominate the cost of a ten-minute agent task.

B · One always-on box

≈ $10.60 or $30.10 a month

The requested 4 vCPU / 8 GiB / 50 GB box does not exist as a single shape.

  • 4 vCPU / 8 GB, 20 GB disk (the disk cap on this shape)730 h × (4 × $0.0011 + 8 × $0.00096) + 20 × $0.09$10.60
  • 4 vCPU / 32 GB, 50 GB disk (the nearest shape that allows 50 GB)730 h × (4 × $0.0011 + 32 × $0.00096) + 50 × $0.09$30.10
  • A VM, needed for Docker or /dev/kvm, multiplies compute by 2.5: about $23.85 or $68.59.
  • Both figures match the vendor's own shape table plus disk at $0.09/GB-month.

50 GB of disk forces the 4 vCPU / 32 GB shape. If 20 GB is enough, the same CPU and RAM cost a third as much.

C · Three hours a day

≈ $1.61 or $2.86 a month

The requested 2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 20 GB box does not exist: that shape caps disk at 12 GB.

  • 2 vCPU / 4 GB, 12 GB disk90 h × $0.00604 + 12 × $0.09 × (720/730)$1.61
  • 4 vCPU / 8 GB, 20 GB disk90 h × $0.01208 + 20 × $0.09 × (720/730)$2.86
  • A 30-day month is 720 hours, so disk is prorated over 720/730 of a month.
  • At 90 awake hours, disk is two-thirds of the bill in the first option.
  • Leaving the same box running all month instead would cost about $5.40.

20 GB is not orderable with 2 vCPU. The second line buys more CPU and RAM than asked to get the disk.

Blaxel

Pay-as-you-go against a wallet, with quota tiers set by top-up.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$27.60

2 vCPU / 4 GiB, deleted after each task

  • Active compute4 GB × 600,000 s × $0.0000115$27.60
  • Assumes immediate deletion, so no snapshot or volume storage.
  • The 4 GB / 2 vCPU mapping is from a secondary source; CPU scales with memory.

B · One always-on box

$247.78

4 vCPU / 8 GiB, 50 GB volume, 730 h

  • Active compute8 GB × 2,628,000 s × $0.0000115$241.78
  • Volume50 GB × $0.12$6.00
  • A 50 GB volume is assumed because the local writable filesystem uses RAM.
  • Images and retained snapshots are extra.

C · Three hours a day

$17.30 plus snapshot storage

4 vCPU / 8 GiB, 20 GB volume, 90 active hours, 630 standby

  • Active compute4 GB × 324,000 s × $0.0000115$14.90
  • Volume20 GB × $0.12$2.40
  • Standby snapshot storage adds S × $0.20 × 630/730, where S is billable GB and is not published.
  • Retaining a sandbox for the month needs a tier above free, which enforces a TTL.

Boat

Monthly plan that is prepaid machine time plus limits, with a separate dollar wallet for overage.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$20 a month (the plan floor)

small (2 vCPU / 4 GB / 51 GB), deleted after each task

  • Compute1,000 × 600 s × $0.018/h ÷ 3,600$3.00
  • Bill$20 plan; included time absorbs it$20.00
  • The size exists exactly, so no substitution is needed.
  • The binding constraint is starts, not money: 33 creates a day is inside the 200-a-day limit.

All 1,000 tasks in one day would hit the start limit: starts 201–600 cost $22 from the wallet, and 601 fails.

B · One always-on box

$26.28 a month

default (4 vCPU / 8 GB / 51 GB), 730 h

  • Compute730 × $0.036$26.28
  • Plan plus wallet$20 plan + $6.28 overage$26.28
  • The first month costs $35 cash because the minimum wallet top-up is $15, leaving $8.72 in the wallet.
  • Auto-stop must be turned off, or the box stops after one hour.

C · Three hours a day

$1.62 of usage, billed at $20

small (2 vCPU / 4 GB / 51 GB), 90 running hours

  • Compute90 × $0.018$1.62
  • Stopped time630 h at $0$0.00
  • The 51 GB disk covers the 20 GB ask, so this is an exact fit.
  • The disk is kept free for 14 days after a stop; a longer gap needs a saved snapshot.

boxd

Prepaid credits, no plan and no per-seat fee.

A · 1,000 short tasks

≈ $25.03 or $34.37 a month

2 vCPU / 8 GiB (the nearest size), 4 GiB resident, 2 GiB written, deleted after each task

  • vCPU2 × $0.047 × 166.67 h$15.67
  • RAM at 4 GiB resident4 × $0.014 × 166.67 h$9.33
  • Disk2 × $0.000096 × 166.67 h$0.03
  • If a task fills the shape at 8 GiB resident, the same work costs $34.37.
  • RAM is billed on what the machine holds, so the 8 GiB size does not force an 8 GiB bill.

B · One always-on box

≈ $222.50 or $304.26 a month

4 vCPU / 16 GiB (the only 4 vCPU size), 8 GiB or 16 GiB resident, 50 GiB written

  • vCPU4 × $0.047 × 730$137.24
  • RAM at 8 GiB resident8 × $0.014 × 730$81.76
  • RAM at 16 GiB resident16 × $0.014 × 730$163.52
  • Disk50 × $0.000096 × 730$3.50
  • 8 GiB is a working set, not a purchase: the 4 vCPU shape comes with 16 GiB and bills what it holds.
  • Sleeping 8 hours a day instead of running always: about $149.60 at 8 GiB resident.

C · Three hours a day

≈ $14.88 or $19.92 a month

2 vCPU / 8 GiB, 4 GiB or 8 GiB resident, 20 GiB written, 90 running hours in a 720-hour month

  • Running, 90 h at 4 GiB90 × (2 × $0.047 + 4 × $0.014 + 20 × $0.000096)$13.67
  • Running, 90 h at 8 GiB90 × (2 × $0.047 + 8 × $0.014 + 20 × $0.000096)$18.71
  • Stopped, 630 h630 × 20 × $0.000096$1.21
  • A 30-day month is 720 hours, so 630 hours are stopped.
  • Leaving it in standby instead of stopping is the expensive mistake: about $50.16 at 4 GiB, because RAM keeps billing.
  • Relying on the 4-hour idle hibernate instead of stopping: about $32.88.

E2B

Per-second usage against a credit balance; Pro adds a monthly plan fee.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$27.60, or nothing against the Hobby credit

2 vCPU / 4 GiB, deleted after each task

  • Compute166.67 h × (2 × $0.0504 + 4 × $0.0162)$27.60
  • Against an unused $100 Hobby credit the cash due is $0, leaving $72.40 of credit.
  • On Pro the same usage is $150 of plan fee plus $27.60.

B · One always-on box

$241.78 of compute, not a feasible all-in quote

4 vCPU / 8 GiB / 50 GiB, 730 h

  • Compute730 × (4 × $0.0504 + 8 × $0.0162)$241.78
  • Pro's continuous-runtime limit is 24 hours, so an uninterrupted 730-hour session is not possible.
  • 50 GiB exceeds the 20 GiB of included Pro disk, so a custom quote is needed.

This workload cannot be bought as specified: it breaks both the session limit and the disk allowance.

C · Three hours a day

$164.90 including the Pro plan fee

2 vCPU / 4 GiB, 90 running hours, 630 paused hours

  • Compute90 × (2 × $0.0504 + 4 × $0.0162)$14.90
  • Pro plan feemonthly$150.00
  • Paused time has no compute charge, and pause/resume resets the continuous-runtime clock.
  • Assumes each daily session is explicitly paused rather than left running.

InstaBox

Monthly subscription that is also a credit: $20, $100 or $500, reset monthly.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$3.20 of usage, billed at $20 on Pro

2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 20 GiB disk, deleted after each task (Pro or above)

  • vCPU2 × $0.004 × 166.67 h$1.33
  • Memory4 × $0.00225 × 166.67 h$1.50
  • Storage20 × $0.00011 × 166.67 h$0.37
  • The $20 plan is also $20 of credit, so the bill is the plan price.
  • On Free the 2/4 size does not exist; the nearest 4/8 would be $5.67 of usage, billed at $0.

The free plan is 4 vCPU / 8 GiB only, so this workload cannot run there as specified.

B · One always-on box

$28.84 a month

4 vCPU / 8 GiB / 50 GiB, 730 h

  • vCPU4 × $0.004 × 730$11.68
  • Memory8 × $0.00225 × 730$13.14
  • Storage50 × $0.00011 × 730$4.02
  • The vendor's calculator shows $24.82 because it leaves storage out of the total.
  • Always-on needs the idle pause turned off, which paid plans allow.

C · Three hours a day

$3.14 of usage, billed at $20 on Pro

2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 20 GiB, 90 running hours

  • vCPU2 × $0.004 × 90$0.72
  • Memory4 × $0.00225 × 90$0.81
  • Storage, all month20 × $0.00011 × 730$1.61
  • On Free the nearest size would be $4.67 of usage, billed at $0.
  • A free machine pauses itself after 30 idle minutes and cannot run more than 8 hours continuously.

Lizard

One Pro plan at $19 a month, including $19 of usage; sandboxes are a flat hourly price per size.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$19 a month (the plan floor)

Small (2 vCPU / 4 GB / 5 GB), deleted after each task

  • Compute1,000 × (10/60) h × $0.0162$2.70
  • Bill$19 plan; included usage absorbs it$19.00
  • The size exists exactly, so no substitution is needed.
  • Pro allows 400 starts a day and 24 a minute, so 1,000 tasks cannot all run in one day.

B · One always-on box

$27.85 or $47.30 a month

No size is 4 vCPU / 8 GB / 50 GB: Medium has 20 GB of disk, Large has 50 GB but 8 vCPU.

  • Medium + a 30 GB volume0.0324 × 730 + 0.14 × 30$27.85
  • Large, no volume0.0648 × 730$47.30
  • Option one matches the CPU and RAM exactly and splits the disk across two filesystems.
  • Volumes bill on used space, not allocated size.

Both options over-deliver something: the first adds a volume, the second doubles CPU and RAM to get 50 GB of disk.

C · Three hours a day

$19 a month either way

No size is 2 vCPU with 20 GB of disk.

  • Small + a 15 GB volume0.0162 × 90 + 0.14 × 15$3.56
  • Medium, no volume0.0324 × 90$2.92
  • Both are under the $19 floor, so the choice is about disk layout, not money.
  • A 30-day month is 720 hours; 90 of them are running.
  • Stopped here means killed, which deletes the sandbox disk: keep anything you need on the volume.

Pausing instead of stopping keeps the whole disk and memory, at no published storage charge.

Morph

Prepaid MCUs with optional monthly plans that include an allocation.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$16.67

2 vCPU / 4 GiB, disk under 32 GiB, deleted after each task

  • MCUs166.67 h × max(2, 4/4, disk/16) = 333.33 MCU333.33
  • Cost333.33 × $0.05$16.67
  • Retained snapshots are excluded; a larger disk raises the MCU count.
  • The requested shape can be provisioned exactly.

B · One always-on box

$146.00

4 vCPU / 8 GiB / 50 GiB, 730 h

  • MCUs730 h × max(4, 8/4, 50/16) = 2,920 MCU2,920
  • Cost2,920 × $0.05$146.00
  • The disk dimension sets the rate at 4 MCU/hour.
  • A plan allocation would discount this, but list-rate usage is shown.

C · Three hours a day

$9.15

2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 20 GiB, 90 running hours, 630 paused

  • Running90 × 2 MCU × $0.05$9.00
  • Paused snapshot24 GB × 630 h × $0.00001$0.15
  • Paused billing is charged on the snapshot, not on the instance.
  • The snapshot's billable size is an assumption; actual counting is not published.

Runtime

Prepaid credit, no plan fee, no seats and no commitment.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$5.21 to $13.33 a month

2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 4 GiB disk, deleted after each task

  • Memory166.67 h × 4 GiB × $0.0075$5.00
  • CPU at the 50-millicore floor0.05 × 166.67 h × $0.025$0.21
  • CPU fully busy2 × 166.67 h × $0.025$8.33
  • Disk under 10 GiB is included while running, and deletion ends the charge.
  • The range exists because per-task CPU use is not published; the floor sets the bill for a task that mostly waits.

B · One always-on box

$48.15 to $120.24 a month

4 vCPU / 8 GiB / 50 GiB, 730 h, always on

  • Memory8 × 730 × $0.0075$43.80
  • CPU at the floor0.05 × 730 × $0.025$0.91
  • CPU fully busy4 × 730 × $0.025$73.00
  • Disk past the included 10 GiB(53.7 − 10.7) GB × $0.08$3.44
  • Always-on needs persistent: true or idlePauseSeconds: 0; otherwise the box pauses after 5 idle minutes.
  • Disk is an upper bound: only blocks the disk alone holds are billed, so a mostly empty disk costs less.

C · Three hours a day

$4.42 to $8.81 a month

2 vCPU / 4 GiB / 20 GiB, 90 running hours in a 720-hour month, stopped otherwise

  • Running, at the floor0.05 × 90 × $0.025 + 4 × 90 × $0.0075$2.81
  • Running, fully busy2 × 90 × $0.025 + 4 × 90 × $0.0075$7.20
  • Stopped disk21.5 GB × $0.08 × 630/720$1.50
  • A 30-day month is 720 hours, so 630 hours are stopped.
  • Pausing instead keeps memory and costs about $4.72 to $9.11.

Sandboxer

Monthly plan whose dollars return as machine time, plus optional time packs.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$20 a month (the plan floor)

small (2 vCPU / 4 GB / 12 GB), deleted after each task

  • Usage1,000 × 600 s × $0.018/h ÷ 3,600$3.00
  • Bill$20 plan; $3 of included time used$20.00
  • There is no free tier, so the plan price is the bill for any workload this small.
  • 1,000 creates is about 33 a day, inside the $20 plan's 200-a-day start limit.

B · One always-on box

$40 cash, of which $26.28 is used

default (4 vCPU / 8 GB / 50 GB), 730 h

  • Usage730 × $0.036$26.28
  • Cash$20 plan + one $20 pack$40.00
  • The unused $13.72 carries forward, because packs never expire.
  • Plan time does not roll over; only packs do.

C · Three hours a day

$20 a month (the plan floor)

small (2 vCPU / 4 GB / 12 GB), 90 running hours

  • Usage90 × $0.018$1.62
  • Billabsorbed by the $20 plan$20.00
  • The nearest size above the ask, default, uses $3.24 and is also inside the plan.
  • Stopped hours are free, and an idle box pauses itself after 30 minutes on the $20 plan.

No 20 GB size exists: disk is fixed per size at 12 GB or 50 GB.

Sprites

Measured usage, with optional monthly plans that bundle allowances.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$14.58 to $65.92

8-vCPU Sprite, 4 GB average memory, no retained disk, deleted after each task

  • Memory166.67 h × 4 GB × $0.021875$14.58
  • CPU at zero to full use166.67 h × 0–8 × $0.0385$0–$51.33
  • The requested 2 vCPU / 4 GiB shape cannot be reserved; CPU is measured up to the 8-vCPU ceiling.
  • Actual storage writes and task time are excluded.

B · One always-on box

$153.67 to $378.51

8-vCPU Sprite, 8 GB average memory, 50 GB retained, 730 h

  • Memory730 × 8 × $0.021875$127.75
  • CPU at zero to full use730 × 0–8 × $0.0385$0–$224.84
  • Storage, hot plus cold730 × 50 × ($0.000683 + $0.000027)$25.92
  • An always-on workload must actively prevent idle sleep.
  • Whether hot and cold storage apply to the same bytes is not unambiguous in the provider's wording.

C · Three hours a day

$9.49 to $37.21

8-vCPU Sprite, 4 GB average memory, 20 GB retained, 90 active hours

  • Memory90 × 4 × $0.021875$7.88
  • CPU at zero to full use90 × 0–8 × $0.0385$0–$27.72
  • Storage, hot plus cold90 × 20 × $0.000683 + 720 × 20 × $0.000027$1.62
  • Idle time is compute-free, but the disk keeps billing while it exists.
  • Warm suspension keeps memory frozen; a longer idle period drops it and the next wake starts processes fresh.

Vercel Sandbox

Metered usage against the Vercel plan, with a monthly credit on Pro.

A · 1,000 short tasks

$18.40 before credit

2 vCPU / 4 GB, 10% average CPU, deleted after each task

  • Memory4 × 166.67 h × $0.0212$14.13
  • Active CPU at 10%2 × 166.67 h × 0.10 × $0.128$4.27
  • An otherwise unused $20 Pro credit covers this, but the $20 platform fee remains.
  • Opt out of persistence, or deleting a sandbox leaves billable snapshots.

B · One always-on box

$161.18 before credit, and not a continuous session

4 vCPU / 8 GB, 10% average CPU, 730 running-equivalent hours

  • Memory8 × 730 × $0.0212$123.81
  • Active CPU at 10%4 × 730 × 0.10 × $0.128$37.38
  • A single session cannot exceed 24 hours on Pro, so 730 hours needs restarts and snapshots.
  • 50 GiB is not a configurable disk: the standard filesystem is 64 GB, and drives are billed on used data.

The always-on workload breaks the 24-hour per-session limit, so this is a running-equivalent estimate rather than a feasible single sandbox.

C · Three hours a day

$9.94 before credit

2 vCPU / 4 GB, 10% average CPU, 90 running hours, stopped otherwise

  • Memory4 × 90 × $0.0212$7.63
  • Active CPU at 10%2 × 90 × 0.10 × $0.128$2.30
  • A 20 GB drive holding 20 GB of data for the month adds about $1.00 plus reads and writes.
  • Retaining the filesystem as snapshots adds storage; 30 stops can create 30 snapshots.
